Just a quick note before you go off and work that forefinger: this area covers north-east Switzerland, which by my definition is that area to the north of Walensee and east of Zürich. The Churfirsten has therefore been included here even though it is not actually within the Alpstein itself.
There`s four pages here because I am lucky to live within half-an-hour of the north end of the Alpstein. A good number of British climbers would give their right arm to live so close to a place like this, and that I very nearly did. July 20th 2004 saw me setting off for the Alpstein on my scooter with a rucksack on my back full of photographic gear. Colliding head-on with an oncoming car, I somersaulted over the handle-bars and landed on my head, breaking the fourth vertebra in my neck in three places. More on the grizzly story here oder hier.
