With a bomber forecast for the last Sunday in August 2009, my friend Andrew from south-west Switzerland had his sights set on the traverse of the Lyskamm. The chances of catching the last cable-car down after such a long route were not high, so for work reasons I bailed out and left him and his three other mates to it. Rather than sit at home feeling grumpy I checked out the Sihltal south of Einsiedeln, and in particular the Druesberg, which looks like the prow of a ship from the Chläbdächer. Traversing under the south wall of the Druesberg I came across the fresh carcass of a chamois which had cleary fallen down the enormous cliff above. I later tried to cut up through the cliff-band towards the summit. Peering down at me from up yonder were three of his former mates, seemingly intrigued by my struggles on this loose and very exposed terrain. Rather than share their buddy`s fate I turned back while I could still reverse the moves. One fresh carcass there was enough. |
