| Here`s a "benefit of hindsight" tip for those of you venturing onto the south-east rib of the Galenstock from the Sidelen Hut. If you want to descend into the same valley from which you came, take a 50 metre rope. Anything shorter will leave you stranded in mid-air somewhere below the abseil station set up on the south ridge. Being caught short in the rope department, we opted for the long way down via the Rhone Glacier. The final crux of our climb was negotiating the souvenir hunters in the Eisgrotte shop. You have to pass through this shop to escape to the outside world. Andrew`s joy at completing this final challenge is evident here. |
