I must say the Internet is a pretty cool place for someone like me who`s forever looking for inspiration and ideas about where in the Alps to haul his camera. We`ve all heard of the Matterhorn and the Eiger, but how many of you have heard of the Feuerspitze?
I certainly hadn`t, until another foggy day last winter saw me huddled in front of my now seven year old 17 incher. And there was the photo, probably only a snapshot, with due respect to its originator. But planting the thought of what could be done with a fancier set-up and being there at the right time. So with a bit of Galen Rowell`s pre-visualisation, off I went this summer with tent and large-format camera gear. In fact, off I went a total of three times, before I found the right light. My knees are one per cent more worn out than before these three visits, but in the end I deemed the attrition of my already suspect cartiledges to have been worthwhile.
