Our visit to this area, courtesy of a friend who owns a flat in Werfen, was blighted by a depression that refused to budge from south-eastern Europe. Persistent cloud, both high above and deep in the valleys, tested our patience for an entire week. One or two tricks have therefore been employed to make the photos on this page more interesting. For example in this photo, using maximum raise on my large format camera has pushed the lens beyond its useable "image circle" thus making the sky darker in the picture than it was in reality. This was not done to create a binocular effect, but so as to avoid tilting the camera upwards. The steep flanks of the Raucheck are thus shown in their correct perspective, namely as steep as they appear here.
