Apparently in July 1999, Austrian dwarf and circus acrobat Franz Dasch was killed during an exhibition in northern Thailand when he bounced from a trampoline and was swallowed by a nearby yawning hippopotamus. Doctors later theorized that the hippo had a gag reflex that automatically caused her to swallow. Worse, the 7,000-plus spectators continued to applaud until they realized that the panicked crew and paramedics were not part of the act. The next day, the hippo passed a rather large stool.
If all this is as unbelievable to you as it is to me, then click on these thumbnails instead. Thailand as it really is, to the tourist at least.
