Our trip to attempt the "trekking (lol) peak" Nya Kanga in 1994 was singularly unsuccessful, but no one cared. It was an antidote to the high pressure, testosterone-soaked and contentious Everest trip the previous year. Man would never have landed on the Moon taking the attitude we adopted. We were four mild-mannered Brits unterwegs, and not an expedition leader in sight, at least not one threatening to break the legs of his French client if he refused to behave. Yala Peak was claimed as a modest consolation prize for not even stepping foot on Nya Kanga. But the view from the summit was far from modest. It was in fact simply breath-taking.
I highly recommend the Langtang Valley for those able to resist the 8000 metre allure of the Annapurna and Everest areas, or perhaps more practically, for those only able to afford three weeks off work rather than the four weeks that the other two areas really need.
