My first ever alpine rock climb was not on European soil, but over in the Canadian Rockies in 1988 - Corey`s Crack which runs up the middle of this photo. My first ever north face was a week later on Stanley Peak, a 20-hour epic that would have taken half the time had we been more willing to move together on the easier parts. Instead we pitched just about all of it. Towards the top my rope management was getting sloppy, and I still remember Colin Cameron arriving at the belay stance to which I had brought him up and saying, "that was a rancid belay you gave me". Never one to lose his sense of humour under stress isn`t Colin.
