The British nurse Edith Cavell showed great courage in helping wounded prisoners escape from their German captors in the First World War, a courage that cost her her life, as she was executed for it. Showing pluck of a rather sillier kind were the walkers who wandered beneath the seracs in this picture at the foot of the mountain named after her.
