When we visited Nisga`a Memorial Park north of Terrace we were in effect visiting and maybe even driving over the last resting place of 2,000 Indians who were hit by a sudden lava flow 250 years ago. Apart from at the campground we saw no one, absolutely no one, so that the above chilling statistic struck us more deeply than if we`d been surrounded by other living, breathing souls, as we strode out over the moss-covered lava fields and wondered what lay entombed beneath our feet. |
