If you decide to hike out alone into the backcountry of Zion, make sure you tell someone where you`re going. Failing that, make sure your pocket-knife is sharp enough. Otherwise you could be faced with the same predicament as Aron Ralston, with one arm trapped under a thousand-pound boulder for five days and trying to pluck up the courage to sever it at the elbow, using a knife too blunt even to chop through a steak, let alone a forearm. If all that doesn`t appeal, then do what I did in this part of the world: plonk your tripod in the holes worn by thousands of other photographers, rubbing shoulder with RV drivers hopping briefly out of their vehicles for a few seconds peek over the rim. |
