Lanzarote is a small and oft-photographed island, so I`m raking over other people`s ground a bit with these pictures. Most were taken in my usual slow, methodical way using a tripod. This was especially necessary with some of the coastal scenes where I used a neutral density filter to hold back ten stops of light, hence the milky effect of the water. The naked eye doesn`t see the waves this way of course. We were there in the first week of April 2010. I was astounded how windy it was. I felt sorry for the market traders in Teguise who had to pin down their lighter merchandise with sticky tape in order to prevent the items from flying across the street as far as the stalls on the other side! One poor woman seemed to spend her whole time running back and forth trying to catch up with her wind-borne goods. I bet she wished she`d stayed at home. Insider tip: if you find yourself short on time or even money, and can only visit Cueva de los Verdes or Jameos del Agua, but not both, then choose the former. The Jameos is a tourist trap whilst the Cueva gives you this as the climax. No contest. |
